Based on the results of the bat conservation projects running from 1999 until 2002 the goals of the INTERREG projects include extensive bat conservation measures (summer and winter roosts, and foraging habitats):

  • conservation of roosts and foraging habitats of endangered bat species

  • monitoring of colonies

  • preparation and realisation of a standardised monitoring program for bat populations

  • research of roost utilisation and habitat preferences as basic knowledge for long-term conservation strategies

  • realisation of conservation measures

  • assisting at renovations of roosts, providing advise in case of bat induced problems, and handling of injured individuals

  • information and education of the public to improve the acceptance of bats

The European Commission has launched the INTERREG III program to promote international projects.
This program includes projects focussing on nature and environmental aspects – a chance to continue the ‘bat conservation projects’ on a more solid financial basis and in co-operation with colleagues from the neighbouring countries.
